San Deigo Botanic Garden Offers Beautiful Gardens and Creative Classes
San Diego Botanic Garden is the perfect place for a relaxing and inspiring escape. Located in Encinitas, in coastal North County, it consists of 37-acres of garden areas and points of interest, offers a mix of wellness, gardening and art classes, hosts seasonal public programs. They also have on-going projects that focus on conservation.
Explore the Gardens
Start your visit by exploring any of the 29 themed gardens representing various regions of the world, such as the Mexican Garden, South African Garden and New Zealand Garden. There are also demonstration gardens, including an Edibles Garden, Herb Garden and Fire Saftey Landscape Garden. Families will love the three children’s gardens (one of which includes a Dinosaur Garden), tree house, miniature railroad and playing in the mountain stream. Stroll through the Bamboo Garden, with 100 different species — the largest collection in North America. And learn about the Kumeyaay people in the Local and Native Garden, that features a Native Plants and Peoples Trail. Don’t miss out on a walk through the rainforest to a see a waterfall. For rare and tropical plants, visit the 8,000-square-foot glass Dickinson Family Education Conservatory. Guided tours and walks are also avialable.
Learn Something New at San Diego Botanic Garden
The San Diego Botanic Garden offers a variety of classes, from yoga in the conservatory or learning about folk herbal medicine to making a dried flower wreath or taking better photos of flora and fauna. Leave time to venture through the gardens before or after a class, stop in the Gift and Plant Shop to pick up something fun for your home or garden (also a great place to buy gifts) or grab a beverage at the coffee cart (the Cork Oak Cafe is being rennovated). There are also children-specific activities, such as the puppet shows, working in the Edible Garden, nature-based play, and a scavenger hunt.

In the Area
The San Diego Botanic Garden is only a couple miles from Moonlight State Beach — take a dip in the ocean, have a picnic on the sand or watch the sunset. Along historic Highway 101, you’ll find a number of shops, cafes and restaurants, including GOODONYA and Herb & Sea.
