Gone are the days of starving at a “fat camp.” Now, there are weight-loss camps that are more like spas than boot camps. With menus that offer low-calorie, gourmet, organic meals and exercise classes that include yoga, outdoor hikes, pilates, and mountain biking, here are a few fitness camps worth checking out:

 

Fitness at Red Mountain Resort:

Located in St. George, Utah, this resort offers a seven night “Weight Loss and Living Well” retreat that features mental, emotional, physical, and nutritional guidance from an experienced team of wellness and fitness specialists. The package also includes a Mindful Eating luncheon, a guided imagery session, and cooking demonstrations. There are 44 different types of fitness class available, including private tours to nearby Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks. There is a full-service spa on site. Rates start at $1,795.

 

Fitness at Biggest Loser Resort:

Based on the NBC hit show “The Biggest Loser,” this resort has four locations (Niagara, NY; Amelia Island, FL; Chicago, IL; Palm Desert, CA) that strive to help guests achieve their wellness goals in a supportive environment. The program includes a healthy eating plan, cardio and strength training classes, relaxation techniques, and group camaraderie. Rates start at $2,445 per week.

 

Fitness at The Oaks at Ojai:

Located in beautiful Ojai, California, The Oaks at Ojai offers guests guided fitness hikes into the nearby mountains, low-impact aquatic workouts in the pool, and several relaxing yoga classes. All meals are included and the daily calorie intake is typically less than 1,200. No alcohol is available at the resort. Spa services are available. Rates start at $260 per night.

 

Fitness at The Ranch at Live Oak/Malibu:

This program focuses on no-option four to five hours of group fitness, including hikes in the acres that surround the Santa Monica Mountains property. The menu features seasonal organic vegetarian fare (some of which is grown in the on-property organic farm) and excludes alcohol, caffeine and processed sugars. Rates start at $6,800 per week.
